We Don’t Have Time And Other Lame Excuses

If you’re the kind of person who likes to get things done, few things are more frustrating than people who stand in the way of progress. Foot draggers, naysayers, bottlenecks, roadblocks — these are people who come from a place of “no.”

It’s especially frustrating in the communications business. Over the years, I’ve come across every excuse there is for not communicating. I covered one of them before: performance anxiety.

And in this article in PR Daily, I talk about six others. Everything from “the lawyers won’t let us” to “they’ll ask a question we can’t answer. Here’s one of the biggies:

Lack of time, of course, is the mother of all excuses, and it’s certainly not exclusive to communication. The fact is we make time for the things that are important. If someone isn’t taking the time to communicate, they don’t consider it a priority.

Or as Lao Tzu, the ancient father of Taoism, put it: “Time is a created thing. To say ‘I don’t have time,’ is like saying, ‘I don’t want to.’”
